"To Kay,Georgie,Angela and the rest of your large family, I am sorry and sad to hear of your loss. Your dad,(grandad, etc.),was always cordial to me, even when I was a young & dumb squirt getting into things I shouldn't have. It wasn't 'til later in life that I found out that he and my uncle were the same age,in WWII,master plumbers, liked a little nip,and they both ended up at the veteran's home. But I don't believe it was because of their friendship that he treated me respectfully, I think if he liked ya,he liked ya,if he didn't,he didn't! I also thought he was the "coolest thing since ice cubes". My sympathy and prayers to you at this grievious time."

"Mr. Mattingly gave me the best advice I ever received when I worked with him at Public Works on the Base. In expressing a discontent with something on the job he advised that I "write it in the dust and let the rain settle it". Advice I carry with me to this day for which I shall always be grateful to him."
