A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 12:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Garth Dockstader officiating, with interment to follow in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 2:00 PM.

Visitation:

 

Viewing/Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 11:00 - 12:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home.

 

William Lewis Asmussen, Jr., 68 of Lexington Park, MD and formerly of Brandywine, MD, died August 22, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born October 6, 1939 in Brandywine, MD, he was the son of the late William and Bessie Ellis Asmussen, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Judith Asmussen whom he married on July 11, 1973 and who preceded him in death on March 31, 2008. He is survived by his children William Lewis Asmussen III of Lexington Park, MD, Daniel Wade Asmussen of Colonial Beach, VA and Cindy Marie Asmussen of Tall Timbers, MD as well as his sisters Dixie Thompson, Carol Marlow and Barbara Tayman, all of Brandywine, MD as well as four grandchildren. William served in the U.S. Marine Corp. for four years and was a retired painter who loved playing Keno, cards and fishing. He also enjoyed walking Harvey, the family pet and watching his favorite sport programs. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 11:00 – 12:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM with Pastor Garth Dockstader officiating.  Interment will follow in Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD at 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be William Garrison, Richard Garrison, Tracey Thompson, Robert Tippett, John Trejo and Joseph Trejo.
