"My sincere prayers and thoughts are with the Mattingly family today. In some ways I feel as if I've lost a family member, too. I can't remember a time when JoJo or someone in his family hasn't shared a special part in my life. JoJo and I started our friendship back in the first grade at FAW. Before that our parents were good friends. My mother often told stories about Booker and Uncle Jack from her youthful days growing up in Leonardtown. I remember many of my young birthdays including JoJo and "spend the bottle". Sissy and I became friends in High School at SMA and our early married lives were spent in much laughter and fun. Also, in High School, is where Sally and I began a friendship. We both met, fell in love with and married our High School sweethearts. Our sons, David and John went to Leonard Hall together and we often compared notes about their College and post-graduate studies. John is now like one of my own family through Heather and Rheanna's friendship.Rosie and Patty Wise were the littles sisters but were always part of the plan.In later years most of us became bound through our children or just through a shared connection. Unfortunately, Virgil and I didn't get to personally know each other until later on. However, my very special relationship with their mother provided the bond that connected us all. Of course, there were your cousins, the original Bond girls, that were always part of the "good ole gang". Fayrene was so very proud of and loved her children and family. You always knew how everyone was doing after conversing with her. Our families have been very close for decades and will hopefully continue to remain so. Therefore, if any one of you need someone to talk to I am just a phone call away."

"Mrs. Mattingly, John, Heather & family, Danielle, George & Timmy...My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am very sorry for your loss. I was just thinking of Mr. Mattingly on Saturday when I was looking at the show saddle he so proudly bought from one of his friends and presented to me one year at Christmas. And of course every Halloween I think about how we were on our way to a party and I spent all day making these crazy looking pudding cups with scary eye balls to take with us and when I went to get them out of the fridge there was only three left and when confronted JoJo just laughed and said he is sure that he appreciated and enjoyed them alot more then anyone at the party would have. I just had to write these things down because all and all that was how he was and that is how I remember how life around him was...never a dull moment and always trying to add his own quirky twist to everyday life and you gotta love him for that. I feel very blessed to have been able to share special times with all of you. I hope that when your sorrow starts to subside that you find peace in your special memories. Love, Michelle "
