Services:

 

 A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, with Fr. Keith Woods officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Morganza, MD.  Contributions may be made to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad.

  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 5:00PM - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with prayers being recited at 7:00PM.
  George Leroy “Roy” Spalding, Sr., 87, of  Mechanicsville, MD died November 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Born October 29, 1922 in Hollywood, MD, he was the son of the late George Felix and Mary Louise Raley Spalding. He was the loving husband of  Mary Alberta Spalding, whom he married on June 6, 1948 in St. Aloysius  Church. He is also survived by his son George Leroy Spalding,Jr. and his wife Pamela Marlene of Mechanicsville, MD and his grandchildren Christa M. Spalding, Brittany L. Spalding, Shaina A. Spalding and Benjamin “Andrew” Spalding as well as his friend and brother-in-law George Leonard Burroughs. He was the brother of Ruth S. Drury of Ridge MD, Joseph R. “Brownie” Spalding of Upper Marlboro, MD,  Mary Anna Clark of Clements, MD, the late Aloysius G. Spalding, John Frederick Spalding of Clements, MD, James Edwin Spalding of Leonardtown, MD and the late James Robert Spalding. He was employed for 35 years at the State Highway Administration in Leonardtown, MD as a Heavy Equipment Operator. He won many awards for his dedication to his job, a job he enjoyed very much. He often spoke of the friendship he had with all of his co-workers, whom he respected and had their respect in return. He loved the water, crabbing, oystering, fishing and boating. He enjoyed the special times he had with his son “Little Roy” when he was a child doing activities such as Boy Scouts, Soccer, softball and hunting as he grew older. His greatest joy was his Grandchilden who he spoiled rotten. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on  Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Morganza, MD. Pallbearers will be Stuart Dement, Andrew Spalding, Alfred Wood, Albert Ridgell, Craig Spence and Duane Buckler. Honorary pallbearers will be Brittany L. Spalding, Shaina A. Spalding, Brenda Johnson, Joy Guy and Jimbo Buckler. Contributions may be left to Mechancisville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
