Obituary for Salvatore Orlando Zavaglia

Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 3, 2006 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Catholic Church Hollywood, MD, with Fr. Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation:
Public visitation will be held on Monday January 2, 2006 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral home from 5 - 8 PM with Prayers @ 7:00 PM - K of C Prayers @ 7:15 PM.
Salvatore Orlando "Sal" Zavaglia, 68, of Hollywood, MD died December 30, 2005 in St. Mary's Hospital. Born February 14, 1937, in Larchmont, NY he was the son of the late Rocco and Rose Zavaglia. He was the loving husband of Angela Zavaglia, whom he married in Hartsdale, NY on August 25, 1962. He was the devoted father of Rocco and Mary Zavaglia, both of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by his granddaughter Alyssa and his siblings Pat, Judy, Joseph and Rose Zavaglia all of New York. Mr. Zavaglia graduated from Archbishop Stepinack High School in 1955 and Northrup University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He moved to St. Mary's County in 1969 from Connecticut, and worked for the United States Government at PAX River NAS as an Aeronautical Engineer for 38 years until his retirement on September 30, 2004. Mr. Zavaglia also served in the United States Army for 2 years from 1960 â?? 1962, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he loved bowling and playing golf. The family received friends Monday, January 2, 2006 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were the members of the Knights of Columbus. Contributions may be made to the Hollywood Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 79, Hollywood, MD 20636 and/or the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 7, Hollywood, MD 20636. Arrangements provided by Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.
