Services:
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church Avenue, MD. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in Holy Angels Catholic Church Avenue, MD with prayers recited at 7:00 PM .
Stanley Joseph Williams, Sr., of Avenue, MD died November 3, 2013 at his residence. Born May 31, 1932 in Taylorsville, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph Stanley and Ethel Florene Wright Williams.
Stanley was the loving husband of Mary Ann Williams, whom he married in Leonardtown, MD on December 14, 1991. He is the father of Stanley (Joan) Williams of Hollywood, MD, David (Missy) Williams of Mechanicsville, MD, Wayne (Brenda) Williams of Trappe, MD, John (Caren) Williams of Hughesville, MD, Vivian (Mike) Bruner of Callaway, MD, JoAnne (Marvin) Phillips of Chester, VA,, Phyllis Spalding of Valley Lee, MD, Belinda (Brad) Phillips of Hollywood, MD, Jane (Ken) Cusic of Leonardtown, MD, Faye Wheeler of Clements, MD, Chris (Brenda) Farrell of Mechanicsville, MD, and Robert (Wendy) Farrell of Port Republic, MD, siblings, Doris Heard of FL Leroy (Margaret) Williams of Bushwood, MD, Helen (Buddy) Bowling of Charlotte Hall, MD, Faye (Jimmy) Gatton of Leonardtown, MD, Ann Marie (Bernie) Quade of Avenue, MD, and Nancy (Alvin) Kragh of Heathsville, VA, Stanley is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, James and Raymond Williams. Stanley was a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident, graduating from Margaret Brent High school, he worked for Burch Oil from 1950 to 1953, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956, was a self employed Manager of the Mechanicsville Gulf Gas Station , and he was with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, from 1969 until he retired in 1994 during this time he was the Jail Commander for the Detention Center, St. Mary’s County Court Security and Bailiff for the Judge’s of the Court. Stanley was a life member of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department (Past Chief and Past President), Charter member of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad (Past Chief), the 7th District Optimist Club from 1986 to 2013 (Past President), American Legion Post 221 from 1992-2013, Avenue, MD, and St. Clements Hundred. Stanley especially enjoyed hunting on the Eastern Shore with friends, boating, going to car races, driving his tractor, spending time with his family; he was a man of faith attending Holy Angel’s Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM, Fire Department and EMS, Optimist, and American Legion prayers to follow in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 10:00AM In Holy Angels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be; Mike Wise, Billy Alderman, Ken Cusic, Ryan Wheeler, DJ Williams, Kyle Cusic, Tony Norris, and John Butterfield, honorary pallbearers will be; grandchildren, Members of Mechanicsville Vol. Fire Dept., Mechanicsville Vol. Rescue Sq., American Legion Post 221, Avenue, MD, and the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department. Contributions may be made to the Mechanicsville Fire Department, Mechanicsville Vol. Rescue Squad and/or Holy Angel’s Catholic Church. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
