HAZEL “Boots” LORENE Daughtridge Hobgood Ulrich, 81, Lexington Park, MD.
On Tuesday, March 18, Hazel Ulrich, 81, passed away at the Southern Maryland Hospital Center surrounded by her family after fighting a hard battle with heart disease.
Boots was born August 9, 1932 in Rocky Mount, NC to Robert Raymond “Pat” and Emma “Lo” Lorene Daughtridge. She spent her youth in NC and VA. She was a vivacious and fun wife and mother who loved good mysteries. Boots graduated from Southern Seminary & Junior College in Buena Vista, VA before marrying and beginning her family. She moved to Piney Point, MD in 1965 as a navy wife and taught at Piney Point Elementary. Boots later owned and operated ALL ABOUT FABRICS in Lexington Park and eventually purchased Pat’s Bar and Restaurant, a Lexington Park landmark now a memory. She enjoyed membership in the DAR, Major William Thomas chapter, as well as cooking and traveling extensively. Classic movies provided much enjoyment in her later years.
In addition to her parents, Boots was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Ulrich, of St. Louis, Missouri and her beloved grandson, Drew “Opie” MacDonald Thompson. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Hobgood Wagner and husband Karl of Great Mills; Skye Lanier Hobgood and her long time companion James “Jim” D. Butler of Lexington Park, as well as her loving grandson Logan Lanier Thompson and his finance Avery Ros Beaton, of Silver Spring, MD. Boots spirit and joy will be missed by many. Kebo, her loyal dog remains at home with family.
A private celebration of life will be held Friday, March 28, 2014. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Mary’s County Library, Lexington Park Branch, 21677 FDR Blvd. Lexington Park, MD 20653.
