James LeAnder Miles, Jr. affectionately known by all as “Midget” transitioned to heaven peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Chesapeake Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on January 12, 1937 in Chaptico, Maryland, James was the loving son of the late James LeAnder Miles, Sr. and Nellie Ellen Curtis Miles.

James was raised into the Catholic faith and humbly received his sacraments at an early age in Chaptico, Maryland. Throughout his life, James faithfully continued to attend Mass at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Morganza, MD St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church in Leonardtown. James was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and completed the necessary education requirements by attending a one room schoolhouse in Loveville, Maryland. After graduation, James worked for Garner Construction and Gatton Construction for many years until his retirement in July 1999. James enjoyed hanging out in Leonardtown, reading the newspaper, taking care of his beloved cats, and watching football and baseball games with family. Although James did not have children of his own, he loved and was very fond of his many nieces and nephews.

James leaves to cherish in his memory four siblings, Charles H. Miles of Clayton, NC; John L. Miles of Morganza, MD; Laura E. Frederick of Great Mills, MD; and Mary A. Evans of Leonardtown, MD; one aunt, Artina Miles of Mechanicsville, MD; two brothers-in-law, Harry Mason of Hollywood, MD and Robert Warren of Upper Marlboro, MD; two godchildren, Carl Gordon and Ellen Edmondson, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who he loved most dearly. James was predeceased by his parents, James and Nellie Miles, siblings, Paul R. Curtis, Eliza C. Mason, Nellie C. Warren, and Nancy Ann T. Fantroy, sister-in-law, Gertrude Curtis, Patricia Miles, and Thyris Miles.

Our family will unite with friends on Thursday, December 12, 2019 for visitation at 9:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 22800 Washington Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650 with Father David Beaubien officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, 26325 Point Lookout Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Pallbearers will be Joseph Johnson, Jr., Harry Frederick, Kaheel Stone and Justin King. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Mason and Carl Gordon.
