Obituary for Joseph Alfred "Alfred" Dillow, III.

Joseph “Alfred” Dillow, III. “Argie/Popdaddy”, 95,of California, MD formerly from Hollywood, MD passed away on January 22, 2020 at his home. Born on April 10, 1924 in White Hall, MD he was the son of the late Alice Roberta Goldsborough Dillow and Joseph Alfred Dillow, Jr. Alfred was the loving husband of the late Betty Dean Dillow whom he married on June 25, 1949 in Holy Face Catholic Church Great Mills, MD and who preceded him in death on February 25, 2013. Alfred is survived by his children Michael Mervell Dillow of Hollywood, MD, Mark Gregory Dillow of Lexington Park, MD, Joanne Marie of Lexington Park, MD, and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas Dillow, Charles Dillow, Robert Dillow, and Alice Dillow.

He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. Alfred graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1942 and attended the University of Maryland. He served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1951, during World War II. Alfred was the owner of Joseph A. Dillow Home Builders in California, MD, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Rotary Club, St. Mary’s County Historical Society, and Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included cooking, traveling, tennis, cutting firewood, and stuffing hams.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Dillow, Michael Sean Dillow, Mark Dillow, Brandon Dillow, Austin Dillow and Dale Tarleton.
