Dorothy Jean Wathen,75 of Helen, MD died Friday, November 6, 2020 in Helen, MD. Born on March 24, 1945 in Leonardtown, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wilmer Cusic and the late Annie Gertrude Norris Cusic. Ms. Wathen was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. Graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1964. She married the love of her life, the late James Aloysius Wathen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Morganza on July 30, 1966. Together they had 8 children. She was a homemaker and enjoyed raising her children and helping out on the family farm. She liked to have fun and loved being around her family attending family functions. She always looked forward to the St. Mary’s County Fair ever year to see the famous Clydesdale Horses which was her favorite. She was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church and faithfully attended every week up until she couldn’t do so anymore.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James Bernard Cusic, Thomas Allen Cusic, Shirley Teresa Cusic, William Franklin Cusic and Samuel Aloysius Cusic.

She was also preceded in death by her late husband, James Aloysius Wathen and son, David Aloysius Wathen. She is survived by her siblings, Frances Cecelia Cusic Wood of Leonardtown and Joseph Wilmer Cusic of Mechanicsville; Her children, Linda Marie Garner (Ricky) of Mechanicsville, Jerry Allan Wathen (Laura) of Hollywood, Joseph Larry Wathen (Laura) of Clements, Charles Bernard Wathen of Helen, Donald Ray Wathen (Kelly) of Chaptico, Shaun Lee Wathen (Rebecca) of Chaptico and Karen Lisa Farmer (Aric) of St. Inigoes; 12 grandchildren; Rachael Hawkins, Raianna Garner, Blake Wathen, Angel Tappin, Allie Wathen, Ashlyn Wathen, Ava Wathen, Lilly Wathen, Grace Peterson, Bentley Wathen, Jaxon Wathen, and Alex Farmer. She is also survived by a very special family member, Jennifer Wathen who was her loving & devoted caregiver.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 Pm in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Morganza, MD with Father Drew Royals officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jerry Wathen, Larry Wathen, Charles Wathen, Donald Wathen, Shaun Wathen, Blake Wathen, Donnie Cusic, and Timothy Wood.
