Obituary for
Harold Samuel Lee
Harold Samuel Lee of Lexington Park, Maryland passed away on August 5, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 24, 1973, he was the son of Moon and Byung Lee. Harold is survived by his mother and brother, Jasper Lee.
Harold’s impact on the Southern Maryland community cannot be overstated. From his career in the service industry to his social interactions with those fortunate enough to meet him at The Green Door Tavern, sporting events, or at a local restaurant, Harold left a profound impression.
He fell in love with the local area while attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he graduated as a multi-sport athlete with Bachelor of Arts degrees in biology and chemistry. It was in St. Mary’s County where he truly found himself.
Equipped with the skills he gained in college, he excelled in the food and consulting industry and quickly rose from a line cook to become the general manager of Tavern of the Village. Harold is remembered by many of his former employees for giving them a chance when no one else would. Some now run their own restaurants and credit his training and mentorship with their success.
Harold later became the manager of the Green Door Tavern. He cared for the business as if it were his own. His welcoming face always made patrons feel at home, and it is difficult not to think of him when walking through the door.
He was an avid fan of the Capitals, Wizards, Orioles, and Redskins, and was often found wearing one of their jerseys. His other passions included fishing, supporting local restaurants, attending alumni and athletic events at his alma mater, playing games online, and listening to holiday music in the middle of the summer.
Harold was perhaps most known for his generosity. Never once did he put his interests in front of others. He was thoughtful when giving the advice that you didn’t realize you needed, celebrating the major life achievements of his friends, and being present in the most selfless, genuine, and comforting way.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life in Harold’s honor on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at 12 p.m. on the Historic St. Mary’s City State House Lawn (47414 Old State House Rd., St. Mary’s City 20686).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Foundation at 47645 College Drive, St. Mary’s City, Maryland, 20686, or to Hospice of St. Mary’s at P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.
