Obituary for Joseph Lawrence "Boots" Cusic

Joseph Lawrence Cusic, “Boots”, 92, of Compton, MD, passed away on November 7, 2022 at his home. Born on July 31, 1930 in Compton, MD, he was the son of the late Pearl Elizabeth Bussler Cusic and the late Richard Stephen Cusic. Joseph was the loving husband of Thelma Pickell Cusic, whom he married on May 20, 1967 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD. In addition to his beloved wife of 55 years, “Boots” is survived by his sister, Betty Ann Spalding, of Leonardtown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was preceded in death by his brothers Lloyd Cusic, Melvin Cusic, Richard Cusic, John Cusic, and Lester Cusic.

Joseph spent his entire life in Compton, MD, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1948. He farmed with his brother, Lloyd, then worked for Thrift Oil as manager of the Maryland Tobacco Growers Association, and for Bell Motor Company. Joseph loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and watching NASCAR races on T.V.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM with Father Ryan Pineda officiating. Interment will follow in First Saints Community Methodist Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott B. Pickell, Ken Cusic, Kyle Cusic, Bobby Spalding, Andrew Ruffin, and Dale Spalding. Honorary pallbearers will be Buster Greathouse, David Kane, and Tommy Swann.
