Obituary for Sterling E. Walker Sr.
Sterling Edward Walker, Sr., 65, of Chaptico, MD, passed away on February 24, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 9, 1957 in Cheverly, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph O. Walker and the late Mary Louise Walker. Sterling is survived by his wife Cindy Walker, whom he married on May 17, 1980, along with his children Sterling Walker, Jr. (Erica) of Mechanicsville, MD and Wendi Lacey (John) of Mechanicsville, MD, his siblings Joseph Walker (Lorraine) and Barbara Johnson (Jack), and four grandchildren, Jayde Lacey, Braylee Walker, Walker Lacey, and Adlee Walker. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Windsor.
Sterling moved from Charles County, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1987. He was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for 45 years. Sterling’s hobbies included hunting, racing, and playing horseshoes. He loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed eating crabs with an ice-cold Coors Light; but what Sterling loved most of all was spending time with his four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD with Father Stephen Wyble officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Sterling E. Walker, Jr., John Lacey, Steve Walker, Bobby Walker, Travis Haffer, Jesse Haffer, and Tony Buckler. Honorary pallbearers will be Jayde Lacey, Braylee Walker, Walker Lacey, Adlee Walker, Wendi Lacey, and Erica Walker.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the 7th District Vol. Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Avenue, MD 20609.
