Obituary for Kenneth "Wayne" Alvey Sr.

Kenneth Wayne Alvey, Sr., “Wayne”, 71, of Hollywood, MD, passed away on September 3, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital Leonardtown, MD with his wife and children by his side. Born on September 19, 1951 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Mary Gertrude Tippett and the late Leonard Bartholomew Alvey. Wayne was the loving husband of Gloria Jean Cusic, whom he married on January 20, 1978 in Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by his children Cheryl Henderson (Jason) of Appomattox, VA, Dana Reynolds (Zachary) of Hollywood, MD, and Kenneth Alvey, Jr. of Hollywood, MD, his siblings Larry Alvey (Linda) of Mechanicsville, MD and Linda Summers (Chuck) of LaPlata, MD, as well as his grandchildren Brandon, Cameron, Dylan, Garrett, Kylee, Brooke, and Cate. Wayne was preceded in death by his siblings Jimmy Alvey, Johnny Alvey, Lee Alvey, Bobby Alvey, Hazel Summers, Irene Strickland, Bessie Proffitt, and Helen Stoneman.

Wayne was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and graduated from Chopticon High School in 1969. He worked in counter sales and was a manager for Brandywine Auto Parts for 40 years, retiring in February 2019. Wayne served in the United States Army, during which time he was deployed to Camp Stanley, South Korea. He enjoyed crabbing, cutting grass, wineries, going to thrift store, poker games, Young and the Restless, classic cars, and, most importantly, spending time with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Helen, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Henderson, Cameron Henderson, Dylan Henderson, and Garrett Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Dufour and David Meinhardt.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made toward the funeral expenses.
