Obituary for
Michael "Mike" Woodall Sr.
Michael “Mike” Anthony Woodall, Sr., 65, of Hughesville, MD, formally of Avenue, MD, passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 1, 2023 at his home. Born on December 9, 1957 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Mary Frances Woodall and George Kelly Woodall. Mike was the loving husband of 46 years to Edith Marie Woodall (Bassford), whom he married on September 9, 1977 in Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by his children Michael Woodall, Jr. (April), Lisa Stephens (Billy), and Katie Woodall; grandchildren Hunter and Reaghan Woodall, Conner and Ashlynn Stephens, and Kayci Barnes; and sisters Christine Kotowski (Ted), Ann Faunce (Dickie), and Ellen Woodall. He was preceded in death by his brothers John Irving Mattingly, Clarence Benjamin Mattingly, and James Ernest “Ernie” Woodall (Linda).
Mike was raised on St. Patrick’s Creek and at an early age became a waterman for many years before moving on to work for other companies in various positions. He had recently retired in 2021 and spent most of his time at a friend’s farm, a very special place to him. His passions were duck hunting with his son, grandchildren, and friends; his yearly hunting trip to Canada; crabbing; racing; and spending all free time with his wife and family.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM with prayers being recited at 4:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. Interment will be private. Honorary pallbearers include Hunter and Reaghan Woodall, Conner and Ashlynn Stephens, Kayci Barnes, Billy Stephens, John Blazer, Kelly Faunce, Jamie Woodall, Richie Faunce, Happy Wathen, Tony Bailey, Dennis Welch, Robert T. Brown, Junior Lathroum, Petie Griffin, Ricky Williams, and Jarred Norris.
