| MICHAEL K. GARDINER, SR.
Michael K. Gardiner, president of the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home and licensed funeral director, began his career in 1970 as an apprentice at the Arehart Funeral Home in LaPlata, Maryland. In 1972, after graduating from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, Michael returned to Maryland to work at the W.C. Mattingley Funeral Home. He worked there for 16 years as a licensed Maryland state funeral director, embalmer, and general manager, until he purchased the funeral home in 1988. Michael received his certification as a funeral service practitioner in 1990, became a licensed Maryland state life insurance agent in 2001, and received his certification as a preplanning consultant in 2003.
Michael is past president and member of the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, past president and life member of the Third District Optimist Club, past chairman of the St. Mary's County Ethics Commission and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Michael is also past chairman and former board member for the St. Mary's County Emergency Medical Service Advisory Council, a member, and a former board member of Hospice of St. Mary's. Michael participates in a number of professional associations as well, such as the National Funeral Directors Association, Selected Independent Funeral Homes (serving on the board of directors 2003 - 2007), Maryland State Funeral Directors Association (serving on the board of directors 1995 - 1999), Funeral Ethics Association, and the Cremation Association of North America. |
