Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. John Mattingly officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart cemetery. Visitation: Public viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 from 5 - 8 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A. Prayers will be said at 7 PM. Ella Mae Knight, 93, of Compton died July 18, 2004 in St. Mary's Nursing Center. Born July 24, 1910 in Oakville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ella Pauline Johnson and James Hanson Wathen. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson Knight, who died October 4, 1989 and her children, Doris C. Knight, John B. Knight and James W. Knight. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Amy Jenkins and Louise Dunn, and a brother, Raymond Wathen. Mrs. Knight is survived by her children, Mary E. Farrell of Compton, George G. Knight of Loveville, and Joseph A. Knight, Sr. of Mechanicsville. Mrs. Knight worked as a Nurse's Assistant at St. Mary's Hospital from 1961 to 1984. After retiring she joined the Red Cross and was an active member for many years. She loved people and had many, many friends. The family will receive friends on July 21, 2004 from 5-8 PM at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Prayers at 7 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 22, 2004 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Compton with Fr. John Mattingly officiating. Interment will follow Sacred Heart Cemetery in Bushwood, MD. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Billy Knight, Johnny Knight, Paul Knight, Michael Knight, Joseph Knight and David Farrell. Contributions may be made to the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 299, Leonardtown, MD 20650 or the St. Francis Xavier Church Building Fund, 21370 Newtowne Neck Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
