Visitation: Visitation - Friday, January 28, 2005 from 5-8 PM. Prayers at 7:00 PM. Margaret Elizabeth Rita Wise Martin, 91, of Leonardtown, MD died January 25, 2005 in Solomons Nursing Center. Born October 21, 1913 in Leonardtown, MD she was the daughter of the late Susan Bertha Mattingly and William Paul "Willie" Wise, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman H. Martin, Jr. on January 15, 2002 at Genesis Elder Care, La Plata, MD, whom she married on April 19, 1937 in Our Lady's Catholic Church in Medley's Neck. She is survived by her children Anne Marie Haverkamp of Chula Vista, CA, Carolyn Ewing of Norfolk, VA, Dr. Louis Martin and his wife Alexandra of Berkeley Heights, NJ; brother Walter Wise of Leonardtown, MD; grandchildren Glenn and his wife Sandra Haverkamp of Leonardtown, MD, Donald and his wife Isabel Haverkamp of Atlanta, GA, Lori and her husband Frank Rivera of Encinitas, CA, Mark Ewing and his wife Sharon Aufox of Arlington Heights, IL and Judith and Deborah Martin of Berkeley Heights, NJ; great-grandchildren Mitchell, Kristen and Chloe Haverkamp of Leonardtown, MD, Keir Haverkamp of Atlanta, GA, Kayla Rivera of Encinitas, CA and Danielle Ewing of Arlington Heights, IL and great nephews Lay Reader and David Downs. She was also preceded in death by two brothers William Paul Wise, Jr. and James Franklin Wise. Mrs. Martin graduated from St Mary's Academy in 1931, from there she went on to attend Strayer Business College. She was a life long St. Mary's County resident except from May 1938 - September 1949 she lived in Indian Head, MD. She taught at Our Lady's School prior to her marriage, worked as a sales associate at Janice's in Leonardtown, MD and at Lo-Ru's of Lexington Park, MD. Mrs. Martin was an active member of the altar society, she enjoyed gardening, floral and shell crafts, sewing, crocheting, cooking and St. Mary's County history. The family received friends in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Friday, January 28. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 29 in Our Lady's Catholic Church in Medley's Neck with Father John Barry officiating. Interment followed in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bobby Wise, Charles Wise, John Wise, Harry Edwards, Norbert Fenwick and Allen Martin. Honorary Pallbearers were Daniel Edwards, Tom Campbell, Clifford Campbell, Dr. John Fenwick, Joseph Martin and Billy Wise. Contributions may be made to Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
