Susan H. Long

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, with Father John Dakes officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Visitation: Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM followed by Optimist Prayers at 7:10 PM. Susan "Sue" H. Long, 78, of Leonardtown, MD died December 28, 2005 in Washington Hospital Center. Born February 14, 1927 in Dynard, MD she was the daughter of the late John Frank and Susan Helen Burroughs Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Albert Long on May 20, 1988 whom she married on March 5, 1946 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Joseph F. and Linda Long, James H. and Toni Long, Thomas R. and Lisa Long and Mary E. Long all of Leonardtown, MD; John R. and Linda Long of Mechanicsville, MD and Susan E. and Joe Copsey of Chestertown, MD; brother and sisters Aloyisus "Satch" M. Hall of Chaptico, MD, Elizabeth A. Quade of Bushwood, MD, Agnes P. Gray of Hollywood, MD; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara J. Long and siblings Francis "Buck" E. Hall, Leonard J. Hall, Joseph "Joe" H. Hall, James "Tink" B. Hall, John "Bernie" B. Hall, Helen V. Norris. Mrs. Long was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident where she was a graduate of St. Mary Academy, Class of 1945. She was employed by Minitec for ten years retiring in 1989. She worked with the Special Olympics of St. Marys for 25 years assisting the children to the games and was also a coach. She was a farmers wife and loved to work in her flower garden and was a avid bingo player. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM, followed by Optimist Prayers at 7:10 PM, and Special Olympic Prayers. Copsey, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers were Shelly DuLucco, Brandi Reece, Frannie Long, Tammy Long, Barbara Weigman, and Randi Long. Contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of St. Marys.
