Barbara Gale McKay, 49, of Valley Lee, MD died on October 21, 2004 in Valley Lee, MD losing her fifteen year battle with cancer. Born January 18, 1955 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of Agnes Cecelia and James Leonard Wheeler, Sr. of Chaptico, MD. She was the loving wife to Roland Rea McKay, whom she married on October 14, 1972. She is also survived by her daughters Beverly Rea McKay, Candace Marie McKay and her son Jason Roland McKay; brothers James L. Wheeler, Jr. and Joseph L. Wheeler; sisters Deborah K. Hall, Betty A. Riffle, M. Theresa McKinney and Mary C. Ramos. She was also the very proud grandmother of three grandsons Tyler Rea McKay, Trevor Martin McKay and Joshua Roland McKay. Mrs. McKay graduated from Chopticon High School in 1972. From an early age, Barbara took care of her six younger siblings and developed a passion for children. Soon after their marriage, Barbara and Roland began helping foster children, providing a loving home for more than twenty children of all ages over a period of years. Along the way they raised three children of their own. Barbara became a licensed daycare provider and took care of her children and extended family as well. Pictures without babies in her arms are rare to be found. Barbara's farm roots extended her green thumb to her flower gardens. With her sharp eye for interior decorating, she could make magic from an empty room in no time. She and Roland recently renovated their new home together nail by nail. She also enjoyed bowling, bingo and bridge. She cooked for family holidays and for everyone that stopped by during the rest of the year. In truth, no matter where she lived, she created the kind of home that people wanted to wander into, sit a spell and chat over a cup of coffee. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 25 from 5 â?? 8 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a Funeral Service will be held at 7 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon George L'heureux officiating. Interment will be Private. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650, Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, P.O.
