Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD with Fr. Francis J. Early officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: Public viewing will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 from 4 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mar Mary Agnes Guy Hammett, 91, of Clements, MD died January 17, 2005 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born July 31, 1913 in Clements, MD she was the daughter of the late Claude Eugene Guy and Mary Agnes Abell Guy. She was the wife of the late Howard Vincent Hammett, whom she married on June 29, 1936 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD. She is survived by her children, Barbara Ann Gardner and husband Thomas "Bing" of California, MD, Sarah Jean Pingleton and husband Johnny of Clements, MD, Mary Agnes Plunkett and husband Russell of Clements, MD, Howard Vincent "Butch" Hammett, Jr. and wife Judi of Amherst, VA, Nancy Lee Miller and husband Tom of Fayetteville, PA, and Rita Catherine Farr and husband Joseph "Jay" of Leonardtown, MD. She is also survived by her brothers, George Aloysius Guy of Leonardtown, MD, Frederick Edmund Guy of Charlotte Hall, MD, and Albert Francis Guy of Clements, MD, and her sisters, Dorothy Elizabeth Emig and Anna Gertrude Haden both of Leonardtown, MD. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, Debbie Brubaker, Sherry Goss, Patty Dorsch, Laura Calvano, Jay Gardner, Tee Gardner, Mark Gardner, Joe Pingleton, Glenda Quade, Kim Pilkerton, Greg Plunkett, Sharyn Hutson, Vince Hammett, Monica Bozik, Hollie Brogunier, Chris Norris, Joe Farr and Melinda Farr. She is also survived by twenty-seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Dorsch and her brothers, Joseph Stanton Guy, Claude Byron Guy and Charles Perry Guy, and her sisters, Laura Cecilia Gass, Nellie Evangeline Patrick and Claudia Abell Yates. Mary Agnes was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy High School, Class of 1931. She assisted in her husband's TV and appliance business in Leonardtown as a receptionist and sales person. She also worked several years for the late Dr. William H. Patrick as a receptionist along with her sister, Billie. She also was employed as a receptionist for her brother, George, at Guy Distributing Company in Leonardtown after her husband Howard's death in July, 1970. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She took great pride in and delighted many family members and friends with her famous "Nannie Cakes". Prayers were said on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD with Rev. Francis J. Early officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Hammett will be her grandsons, Joe Pingleton, Greg Plunkett, Vince Hammett, Chris Norris and Joe Farr and her godchild, Bill Guy.
