Services:
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation:
Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, October 27, 2005 from 5 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM.
Wilmer "Popeye" Claude Wathen, Sr., 69, of Mechanicsville, MD died October 24, 2005 in Georgetown University Hospital. Born December 31, 1935 in Clements, MD he was the son of the late William Ford and Catherine Harden Wathen. He was the loving husband of Brenda Wathen for 39 years, whom he married on June 18, 1966 in Morganza, MD; He is survived by his children: Bonnie Kolbe and her husband Walter of Mechanicsville, MD, Joyce Wood and her husband Eddie of Chaptico, MD, Junior Wathen and his wife Jennifer of Leonardtown, MD and Danny Wathen and his wife Shelly of Callaway, MD; brothers and sisters: James A. Wathen of Helen, MD, Suzie Howe of Clements, MD, Douglas Wathen and Mary Harding both of Mechanicsville, MD; 12 grandchildren: Scottie, Tony, Jeffrey, Kevin, Joanne, Heather, Joey, Troy, Mikey, Brandon, Olivia and Ashley. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Virginia Lusby, Agnes Copsey, John P. Wathen, James T. Wathen and Mitchel "Jigs" Wathen. Mr. Wathen attended St. Joseph's School and was a life long St. Mary's County resident. He worked as a farmer and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2005 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: David Wathen, Larry Wathen, Donald Wathen, Randy Wathen, Mike Wathen, John Wathen, Louis Herbert, Jr. and Tommy Herbert.
