James Paul "Jim" Pope, 79, of Pensacola, FL, died June 1, 2005 in Leonardtown, MD. Born February 25, 1926 in Samson, AL, he was the son of the late James Grover and Minnie Bell Parrish Pope. He was the husband of Mary Hale Pope whom he married on April 19, 1950. He is survived by his children, Brenda Gunter of Pensacola Beach, FL, Gwen Roberts of Pensacola, FL and Timothy Pope of Tampa, FL. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is survived by his siblings, Alice Fulford, of Huntsville, AL, Nell Pridgen, of Tampa, FL and Glenn Pope, of Defuniak, FL. He was preceded in death by his siblings Gradey Pope, Frank Pope and York Pope. Mr. Pope was a Merchant Marine Chief Engineer for 50 years until his retirement in 1991 and was a member of the Merchant Engineers Benevolent Association. Services for Mr. Pope will be private.
