A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens.
Visitation:
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.
Paul Leroy (Roy) Long, 87, of Mechanicsville, MD died March 26, 2007 in Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Charlotte Hall, MD. Born June 4, 1919 in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Amy Gertrude Cusick Long and James Robert Long. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta M. Guy Long whom he married on December 12, 1970 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD. He was the loving brother of Elizabeth Carrie Long Baldwin of Harrisburg, VA and Thomas Roderick Long of Mechanicsville, MD and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Bertha Gertrude Long Herbert, James Robert (Buddy) Long and John Richard Long. Mr. Long was a life long St. Mary's County resident and a dedicated servant of the Catholic Faith. Raised on DelaBrooke Manor Farm, near Oraville, MD, a graduate of Margaret Brent High School class of 1938, Mr. Long assumed the position of caretaker at DelaBrooke Manor in 1941 until he was called off to serve in the Army during World War II. Upon his return from serving his country after World War II, Mr. Long continued his role as caretaker at DelaBrooke until 1966 at which time he worked for the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Supply Department until his retirement in 1981. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.
