A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Aloysius Church, Leonardtown, MD with Fr. Ron Potts offciating. Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
Visitation:
Prayers will be said on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 7:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM.
Leonard "Al" Allen Potts, 69, of Chaptico, MD died April 4, 2007 in Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC. Born August 1, 1937 in Ellicott City, MD he was the son of Catherine Louise Riddle Potts and the late Leonard Thornton Potts. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Marie Owens Potts whom he married on May 19, 1962 at St. Aloysius Church, Leonardtown, MD. He is survived by his sons Donald Allen Potts and his wife Sharron of Leonardtown, MD and Rev. Ronald Allen Potts of Germantown, MD, his sister Nora Ann Michael and her husband William of Baltimore, MD, and his granddaughters Natalie Lynn Potts and Rachel Nicole Potts. He was preceded in death by his sister: Mary Joan Nugent. Mr. Potts moved to St. Mary's County on April 6, 1961 from Baltimore, MD. A graduate of Calvert Hall High School, Class of 1955 he obtained his AA degree in 1976 from the College of Southern Maryland. He entered the United States Marine Corp. on July 20, 1955 and served until September 4, 1959. He was employed as a Barrack Commander for the Maryland State Police for 32 years, retiring on July 1, 1992. He belonged to many organizations; Maryland Troopers Association, Christmas in April, Calvert Hall Alumni, Fourth District Optimists, Knights of Columbus, Southern Maryland Leathernecks and the Rocking Chair Softball League. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. Potts officiating while the principal celebrants will be Rev. Msgr. Martin Harris, Rev. John Stack, Rev. Timothy Baer, Rev. John Dakes, Rev. Evelio Menjivar and The Most Reverend Martin D. Holley, Auxiliary Bishop of Washington will preside. Pallbearers will be Donald Potts, Kent Clarke, Jay Clarke, Patrick Nugent, John Guy, Glenn Therres, Brooks Norris and Steven Guy. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Ely, Richard Fischer, John Hopf, William Miedzinski, Charles Mills, Michael Musial and Wayne Pettit. Interment will follow in the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD. Contributions may be made to Christmas in April, P.O.
