Joseph William Widman

Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. John Mattingly officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Compton, MD. Visitation: Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. Joseph William "Joe" Widman, 85, of Hollywood, MD and formerly of Washington, DC, died September 22, 2007 in St. Mary's Hospital. Born January 10, 1922 in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Widman. He was the loving husband of the late Peggy Widman whom he married on February 20, 1952 in Washington, DC. He is survived by his children; Jake Widman of San Francsico, CA and Mary Widman of Temple Hills, MD and his grandson Liam Widman. Joe graduated from George Washington University with a degree in engineering and was an engineer for the U.S. Department of the Navy, retiring in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and fought in World War II and the European Campaign. He moved to St. Mary's County 1978 where he belonged to NARFE and loved playing bridge with the group at Cedar Lane. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.
