A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Reese officiating. Interment will follow in the Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.
Visitation:
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.
Julian I. "Buddy" Johnson, Sr., 85, of Helen, MD formerly of Ripley, MD died March 24, 2008 in Georgetown University Hospital. Born May 22, 1922 in Washington, DC he was the son of the late Francis Julian and Ida Maddox Johnson. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia Alene Beavers Johnson who preceded him in death on January 8, 2008. He is survived by his children: Warren Johnson and his wife Carolyn, Julie Alpert and her husband Rick all of La Plata, MD, Joan Hock and her husband Ryland of Bryans Road, MD and Julian Johnson, Jr. of Hollywood, MD; siblings: Frances Tilch of Ft. Washington, MD, Dorothy Gilroy and John Johnson both of FL and Carmen Stinnett of Ripley, MD; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son Van Johnson; siblings: Lucille Bond, Douglas Johnson and Earl Johnson. Mr. Johnson attended LaPlata High School. He worked as an electrician for the Naval Ordinance Station, Indian Head, MD and then became a custom home builder. He served in the U.S. Army from October 15, 1942 - December 8, 1945, he was stationed in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received several awards such as the World War II victory ribbon, good conduct medal, American Theater Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon. He also enjoyed gardening and planting, traveling and going on family outings. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 28, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be Dennis Tapponnier, Jamie Jackson, James Thomas, Ryan Hock, Rick Alpert and Mike Guy.
