A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
Visitation:
Viewing/Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 3:00 PM.
William Andrew ”Billy” Norris, 65, of Leonardtown, MD died July 17, 2008 at his residence. Born November 13, 1942 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of the late Calvert Ignatius and Mary Elizabeth Gatton Norris. He was the beloved husband of Helen Rebecca "Becky" Wood Norris. He is survived by his children: William Anthony “Tony” Norris and his wife Sheri and Karen Leigh Norris Tippett and her husband Troy all of Mechanicsville, MD; siblings: Mary Lou Ching Mattei, Betty Ann Beavan and Jackie Norris all of Leonardtown, MD, Dickie Norris and Joan Payne both of Mechanicsville, MD; grandchildren: Courtney and Garrett Norris, Kaitlyn and Alex Tippett and Ryan McLean. He was also preceded in death by his brother Bobby Norris. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County resident who was employed by A & P/Super Fresh as a meat cutter/butcher for 30 years until his retirement in 2001. He enjoyed yard work, camping and spending time with his family and helping his neighbors. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 2 – 5 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with prayers being said at 3:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Keith Woods officiating. Pallbearers will be Adrian Hill, Jr., Jason Farrell, Timmy Downey, Quintin Wood, Jr., Wade Wood, Gary Norris, Georgie Payne, Bob Norris, Jim Norris and Bernie Beavan. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad Auxillary, P.O. Box 552, Mechanicsville, MD 20659 and/or Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.

“Aunt Becky, Karen, Tony and families, I know you have heard the words “I’m sorry” a million times so far and are sure to hear them a million more over the next few days. But this is only because it is so hard to find the right words to express our deep sorrow and saddness. Saddness that Uncle Billy is no longer with you/us – he was such a wonderful man, so friendly and happy. That smile of his always made you feel warm and welcome. He was just so great to be around. But, along with this sadness is also relief and joy that he is no longer suffering and that he has joined his brother and parent’s and all of his other family and friends that have passed before him. I am sure they have been missing him terribly and now they get to be together again in Heaven. At least you can take comfort in the fact that he is in good hands and in good company and in perfect health. And that you all have a wonderful guardian angel watching over you that loves you very much. I know you and all of us loved him too. We will miss him.”
