Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dan Bennett officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Visitation: Viewing/Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. Ethel Kathryn McCreary, 85, of Piney Point, MD and formerly of Berwyn Heights, MD, died December 14, 2008 in Solomons Nursing Center. Born January 2, 1923 in Mt. Ranier, MD she was the daughter of the late Carl Wilhelm and Viola May Walzl. She was the loving wife of the late Joseph Richard McCreary, Sr. whom she married on September 17, 1964 in Upper Marlboro, MD. She is survived by her children Joseph R. McCeary, Jr. of Manassas, VA, Anne E. Rodgers of Oviedo, FL, Trent H. Bergendahl of Huntingtown, MD, Kenneth E. Bergendahl of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Linda A. McConnell of Piney Point, MD as well as fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Mark N. Bergendahl, her brother Frank Walzl and her twin sister Louise Redmon. Ethel was a graduate of Bladensburg High School “Class of 1939” and moved to St. Mary’s County in 1978 from Berwyn Heights, MD. She was a personal secretary to the Postmaster General with the Postal Rates Commission for 22 years, retiring on June 30, 1979. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, 2008 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Pastor Dan Bennett officiating. Interment will follow on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
