Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:00 AM in St. George's Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD with Rev. Gregory Syler officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation: Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in St. George's Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. George Wallace “Scribby” Burke of Tall Timbers, MD died Monday March 30, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife Barbara and family members. Born in Crisfield, MD on October 19, 1928, he was the son of the late William Godfrey Burke and Mary Rebecca Poe Burke.He retired with honors from the United States Air Force with over 20 years of dedicated service to his Country. After his retirement from the United States Air Force he went to work for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Washington, DC. He retired from the EPA as a Budget and Grant Specialist. He ended his working career when he retired from LK Farrell in Waldorf, MD as a Real Estate Broker. He was a graduate of Great Mills High School. He had been an active and dedicated member of the Air Force Sergeant Association and the VFW in California, MD. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Burke. His sister-in-laws, Mary Emily Evans of Crisfield, MD, Debbie Hills and her husband Larry of Great Mills, MD. Brother-in-laws, Thomas A. Goddard and his wife Ragna of CT, Leslie W. Goddard and his wife Betty Carol of Drayden, MD, Roy E. Goddard of Tall Timbers, MD, Curtis A. Goddard and his wife Cheryl of Lusby, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, William Chester Burke, Warren G. (Buddy) Burke, Sr., Richard Lee Evans and one sister Ruth Williams.He was an avid reader. He liked to play golf and he enjoyed playing cards with his family and friends.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 PM in St. George’s Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD where Prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:00AM in St. George’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Gregory Syler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Hills, Warren Burke, Michael Burke, Matthew Miller, Curtis Goddard and Ben Goddard. Honorary pallbearer will be Roy Goddard. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, Poplar Hill Parish, P.O. Box 30, 19167 Poplar Hill Lane, Valley Lee, MD 20692. The Second District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1, Valley Lee, MD. Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625 , Leonardtown, MD 20650.
