John Henry Taylor, Jr., affectionately called “Lil John” by many and “Our Da” by his children, was born in Leonardtown, Maryland on April 6, 1932, to the late John Henry, Sr. and the late Mary Emily Taylor. Lil John departed this life Saturday, August 1, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland. Lil John was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and received his formal education thought the St. Mary’s County Public School System.Lil John worked for Buck Distributing Company as a Driver/Salesman for 21 years, retiring in October of 1986. In 1987 he went back to work for Bozik Distributing Company as a Warehouse Worker for seven years. On May 30, 1954, Lil John married the love of his life, Maryann and they were blessed with eight loving and devoted children. Lil John and Maryann were sharecroppers at their residence on Cedar Lane Road in Leonardtown, Maryland for many years until his health failed. Lil John and his children enjoyed planting, striping, and hanging tobacco. In July of 1998, he was comatose from a stroke and admitted to St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Leonardtown, Maryland where he resided. Lil John lived a life that spoke of his unconditional love for his children --Although while growing up his children did not view his discipline methods as unconditional love. As adults they are grateful for their Dad’s love, friendship and guidance. Lil John and Maryann enjoyed attending the St.Mary’s County Softball League games. One of Lil John’s greatest passions, as we all knew was farming. He enjoyed feeding his cows and pigs than watching them eat until the edge of dark. Lil John also enjoyed entering his prize winning livestock in the St. Mary’s County Fair as well as attending the horse and tractor pull at the St. Mary’s County Fair. Not only did he enter his cows and pigs into the St.Mary’s County Fair but he drove his work truck in the St. Mary’s County Fair’s Parade as well. Lil John was a member of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church. Lil John’s favorite response to “How are you?” was “One Day At A Time” a lyric from his favorite hymn. Lil John leaves to remember and cherish his legacy a beloved and devoted wife of 55 years; Maryann Taylor of California, Maryland, nine children; Charles Nathaniel Taylor of Chaptico, Maryland, Catherine Ann Taylor of Great Mills, Maryland, John Henry Taylor III, of Leonardtown, Maryland, Mary Elizabeth Dorsey of Lexington Park, Maryland, George Francis Taylor of California, Maryland, Thomas Leroy Taylor, Robert Eugene Taylor, James Carl Taylor (wife Stephanie), and Jonathan Christopher Taylor, all of Lexington Park, Maryland; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-seven great grandchildren; a devoted brother; G.
