Services: A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home chapel where prayers will be recited at 3:00 PM. Norma Jean Gibson, 79, of Avenue, MD, died January 12, 2011 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born October 3, 1931 in Washington, DC she was the loving wife of the late George Bernard Gibson, Sr. whom she married on June 2, 1950 in Washington, DC. he preceded her in death on June 16, 2003. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her children; George B Gibson, Jr. of Clements, MD, Sandra L. Bailey of Avenue, MD, and Linda G. Aharon of Ormond Beach, FL. Norma is also survived by her siblings; Pete Griffin of Clements, MD and Joy Farrell of Colton’s Point, MD as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Michael W. Gibson in 2002 and one sister Robbie Pierce. Norma graduated from Anacostia High School in 1949. She moved from Washington, DC to St. Mary’s County in 1951. Norma worked as an Accounting Technician at the Patuxent Naval Air Station, Lexington Park, MD. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 16, 2011 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where prayers will be recited at 3:00PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD with Fr. William Gurnee officiating. Pallbearers will be; George B. Gibson, II, Jerry Hammett, Jr., Pete Griffin, Jr., and Mike Steinhauser. Contributions may be made to the Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Avenue, MD. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Bushwood, MD.
