Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady’s Catholic Church, Medley’s Neck, MD., with Fr. Lawrence Young officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM with prayers recited at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD William Dominic Abell, 99, of Leonardtown, died May 2, 2012 surrounded by his family at his son's home in Leonardtown. Born March 1, 1913 at his parent's farm on Fairgrounds Road. He was the son of the late George Edgar Abell and Emma Pauline Abell. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and resided at his home on Fairgrounds Road since November 1948. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady's Church at Medley's Neck. Dominic was a devoted father and grandfather, he enjoyed working on his farm and spending time with family and friends. He was always a giving person and offered to lend a hand to anyone in need. He also took pleasure in story telling about his younger years. He married Helen Cecelia Downs on December, 26, 1939. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2000. He is survived by his son, John Douglas Abell of Leonardtown and his two grandchildren Paul Christopher Abell of Leonardtown and Angela Michelle Abell (Christopher) of Solomons. He is survived by his sister, Maria Jane Higgs of LaPlata. He was preceded in death by his brothers George Donald Abell and Francis Edgar Abell and sisters Hilda M. Norris and Mary Louise Proffitt. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Mattingly-Gardner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, with prayers to be recited at 3:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady's Catholic Church at Medley's Neck in Leonardtown, with Reverend Lawrence Young officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ira J. Coombs Jr., Dee Coombs, Rex Coombs, Leon Higgs, Kenneth Wood.. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's. One time when I was there a cow was giving birth and Uncle Nick was so gentle telling about the cow. Nick I am sure you and your family will miss him so very much.
