Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:00AM in Our Lady's Catholic Church, Medley's Neck, with Father Lawrence Young officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD . Visitation: The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:30PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Elsie “Ellie” Elizabeth Stone, 89, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on October 15, 2013 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on August 17, 1924 in Morganza, MD., she was the daughter of the late James Ernest and Mary Rosalie Cooper Johnson. Ellie was the loving wife of the late Joseph Ford Stone who she married on April 5, 1941 in Our Lady’s Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD, and whom preceded her in death on January 26, 1983. Elsie is survived by her children; Helen Oliver (Companion Russ Quade), and Sharon (Ralph) Long both of Hollywood, MD., Joseph F. Stone, Jr. (Shirley) of Great Mills, MD., Ronald Stone (Becky) of Port Royal, VA., Marilyn Higgs (David), Donna Whites (Larry) both of Leonardtown, MD., 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Siblings; Mary Hayden of Leonardtown, MD, Margaret Wheeler of Clements, MD., and Charles (Bert) Johnson of Leonardtown, MD. She is preceded in death by her siblings; Ernest Johnson, Mildred Stone Adams, Melvin Johnson, Manning “Cotton” Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Robert “Sonny” Johnson, Henrietta Bean, Frederick (Freddie) Johnson, and Francis Benedict (Dickie) Johnson. Elsie graduated from Our Lady’s School and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, she worked as a homemaker. Elsie loved to cook for her family, bake cakes, very crafty and creative, and loved Christmas time. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2013 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:30 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady’s Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD with Father Lawrence Young officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be Michael Oliver, Robbie Long, Scott Long, Dale Long, Joey Stone, and Davey Higgs. Honorary Pallbearer, Nick Whites. In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Leonardtown Vol. Rescue Squad P.O. Box 299 Leonardtown, MD 20650.
