Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 1:00PM in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 11:30AM to 12:30PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Thomas (Tom) Lester Long, Jr. 59, of Chesterfield, VA formerly from St. Mary’s County passed away on December 19, 2013 in Richmond, VA. Born on February 24, 1954, in Washington, DC., he was the son of the late Mary Joan Alvey Long and Thomas Lester Long, Sr. Tom was the loving husband of Ruby Anne Long whom he married in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD. Tom is survived by his children: Thomas Long, III, Joan Long West, Jennifer Boom all of Chesterfield, VA and 5 grandchildren. Siblings; Ellen Long of Lexington Park, MD and Sandra Eversberg, of Hollywood, MD. He is preceded in death by his siblings; Gerri Stokel, Michael Long and Patricia Lewis. Tom graduated from Chopticon High School in 1971 and graduated from Ohio Technical College in 1973 with an Associate’s Degree. He worked as a Computer Technician for Electronic Systems Inc. for 6 years. He lived in St. Mary’s County until 1974, but still has strong roots to the area. He was big in Richmond area soccer, and was a trainer for youth and volunteer with Richmond, VA police department. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers: Thomas Long, III, William Eversberg, Troy Ferguson, Maurice Rice, David Norris, and Alex Norris.
