A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11:00AM in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mechanicsville, MD with Reverend Ann Strickler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation:
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
James L. "Sonny" Bartz, Sr., 83, of Hollywood, MD passed away at his residence on January 10, 2014. Born on April 18, 1930 in District Heights, MD, he was the loving son of the late Charles F. and Marian Rollins Bartz. Sonny was the loving husband of Ellen O. Bartz, whom he married on November 15, 1958 in Trinity Church, Newport, MD. Sonny is survived by his children; James L. Bartz, Jr. and wife Joan of Mechanicsville, MD, Terri Van Asdlen and husband Dave of Hollywood, MD, grandchildren; Andrew James "AJ" and wife Katie of Hollywood, MD, Kevin Cole and wife Kathie of Mechanicsville, MD, Great grandchildren; Hannah Kay, Jacob Aaron, and Landon James. Siblings; Anna Mae Austin, Marie Burroughs, and Nancy Turner all of Mechanicsville, MD. He is preceded in death by his brother Charles F. “Bucky” Bartz, Jr. "Sonny" graduated from Maryland Park High School in 1947 and moved from District Heights, MD to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1947. He was the owner/ operator of a trucking company, until retiring in 1992.
