Kyoko “Kay” Sato Matlack, 88, of Leonardtown, MD formerly from Lansdale, PA passed away on February 27, 2014 in Solmons Nursing Home Solmons, MD. Born on October 23, 1925 in Hokkaido, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Usaku and Kuni Toki Sato. Kay was the loving wife of the late Ralph C. Matlack Jr. who preceded her in death on July 11, 1994 and whom she married at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan on April 24, 1962. Kay is survived by her children; Ralph C. Matlack, III and his wife Jenny of Leonardtown, MD, grandchildren; Marie Kyoko Back and her husband Spencer of MCAS Jacksonville, NC., Sara Christine Matlack and Ralph Matlack, IV both of Leonardtown, MD. She was preceded in death by her sister Yoshie Sato of Japan. Kay moved from Lansdale, PA to St. Mary’s County in 2007 to be near her family. She worked as a Typist Translator for the United States Air Force Tokyo, Japan where she met her husband in 1961and she became a citizen of the USA in February 18, 1964. Kay was a member of the Lansdale United Methodist Church since December 4, 1969 and cooked for the Meals on Wheels in Lansdale, PA. She enjoyed knitting baby blankets for her church. A Service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, VA. where she will be interred with her husband.
