A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Hollywood United Methodist Church Hollywood, MD with Rev. Sheldon Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Joy Chapel Cemetery Hollywood, MD.
Visitation:
The Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home chapel with prayers recited at 7:00 PM.
Jose Ulises Tavera, 81, of Hollywood, MD passed away at his residence on April 12, 2014 in Hollywood, MD. Born on May 8, 1932 in Chaparral Columbia, South America, he was the loving son of the late Pedro and Ernestine Tavera. Jose was the loving husband of Dianne Insley Tavera whom he married in Baltimore, MD on March 27, 1965. Jose is survived by his children: Anthony Tavera (Joann) of Woodbine, MD, Wesley Tavera (Michelle) of Columbia, MD, Mark Tavera and Maria Wolcott (Dennis) both of Hollywood, MD, and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Hugo Tavera and Norha Tavera.
Jose graduated from Chaparral high school in 1950, was a member of the Columbian Navy for 20 years retiring as Chief Petty Officer, in 1968. He and moved from Cartagena, Columbia in 1968 to St. Mary’s County. He worked as a Print Room Supervisor for PEPCO in Washington, DC, for 20 years, retiring in June, 2001. He also worked for 15 years at Stuart Petroleum in Piney Point, MD.
He was a man of courage who left the comforts of his native county to follow his wife to hers. He will be remembered for his love of his wife and children.
