” MEMORIES OH THE MEMORIES WHEN I LOOK BACK OVER THE YEARS THERE ARE SO MANY TIMES I FIND A SMILE ON MY FACE. MANY OF THOSE TIMES THE SAME WOMAN’S FACE APPEARS. SHE ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL SPECIAL AND LOVED. SHE HELD ME WHEN I WAS A BABY IN MY BEAUTIFUL CHRISTEING DRESS. WHEN I WAS ABOUT FOUR AND SICK SHE PLAYED WITH ME TO TRY TO DISTRACT ME FROM FEELING SO BAD, WHEN IT WAS HALLOWEEN I’D PROUDLY GO TO HER HOUSE IN MY COSTUME AND SHE AND MY MOTHER WOULD TAKE ALL THE KIDS TRICK OR TREATING AND SHE’D HAVE POP CORN BALLS, WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10 AND RAN AWAY FROM HOME I RAN TO HER AND SHE LET ME KNOW THAT WAS NOT ALLOWED BUT SHE STILL THOUGHT I WAS GREAT, WHEN SHE PUT ON HER STAW HAT I’D HELP HER PICK BEANS AND TOMATOES AND SHE’D LET ME TALK ABOUT ANYTHING I WANTED, WHEN SHE MADE POTATOE SALAD I ALWAYS HAD TWO HELPINGS, WHEN I DROVE HER AND MY GRANDMOTHER TO A COUSINS WEDDING IN WASHINGTON SHE MADE SURE I HAD A GOOD TIME BUT REMINDED ME WE HAD BROUGHT MY GRANDMOTHER TO BE ABLE TO ENJOY THE DAY AND THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING – NOT THE DATE I HAD THAT NIGHT, WHEN I HAD MY BABIES SHE TOLD ME THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL, WHEN I HAD DIFFICULTY IN A RELATIONSHIP SHE ENCOURAGED ME TO LET THE HURT GO AND RENEW WITH LOVE AND SHE ALWAYS TOLD ME TO GO BACK UNTIL THINGS WERE RIGHT. SHE TOLD ME FAMILY STORES I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWN – THINGS ABOUT MY GRANDPARENTS, GREAT GRANDMOTHER, AUNTS AND UNCLES AS CHILDREN AND SHE MADE THEM SOUND LIKE BOOKS OF ADVENTURES FROM WELL KNOWN ROYAL FAMILIES. SHE SPOKE OF HER FAMILY WITH SUCH PRIDE AND ALWAYS KNEW WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH HER GIRLS AND GRANDCHILDREN AND GLOWED WHEN SHE TALKED ABOUT THEM. WHEN MAKING THE CHOICE OF WHAT MY OWN GRANDCHILDREN WOULD CALL ME I CHOSE THE GRANDMOTHER I MOST ADMIRED AND I TOO BECAME “GRAMMY”. HER FAITH IN GOD WAS ALWAYS CLEAR, AND HER BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS FOR YEARS ADORNED THE ALTER OF ST. ALOYSIOUS. UNFORTUNATELY I DID NOT HAVE HER GREEN THUMB. SHE THOUGHT I WAS HYSTERICAL WHEN I SAID I KILLED PLASTIC. HER HOUSE SMELLED OF A CEDAR TREE AT CHRISTMAS, AND THE BRICK FROM HER WALNUT CRACKING WAS A PART OF WINTER. AFTER A HEROIC BATTLE WITH ALZHEIMERS WHERE LITTLE BY LITTLE HER MEMORIES WERE LOST SHE HAS NOW GONE TO TEND THE GARDENS OF HEAVEN. WITHOUT QUESTION, SHE IS HAPPY. THERE’S FAMILY SHE LOVES, OLD NEIGHBORS, OLD FRIENDS AND OLD MEMORIES ARE HERS AGAIN. I HOPE SOME OF THEM INCLUDE ME FOR MANY OF MY FONDEST INCLUDE HER. I WILL MISS HER BECAUSE NOW I CAN’T EVEN PHYSICALLY SEE HER BUT I AM SO HAPPY SHE PICKING FLOWERS FOR GOD. WHAT A GIFT MY MOTHER GAVE ME THE DAY SHE ASKED AUNT “MER NINNIN” TO BE MY GODMOTHER. TO HER DAUGHTERS SHIRLEY AND CATHY I SAY REJOICE IN BEING HAPPY THAT HER NEW ADDRESS IS HEAVEN AND BE PROUD THAT YOU NEVER DIDN’T TAKE CARE OF HER. YOU WERE THERE EVERY WEEK, MOST WEEKS MORE THAN ONCE, EVEN WHEN SEEING HER WAS HARD. FIND COMFORT IN KNOWING THAT. I TRULY LOVED HER TOO. “
