Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 13, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Newport Catholic Church, Newport, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM with prayers recited at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. PLEASE NOTE DETOUR FOR VISITATION (ROADS WILL REOPEN AT 2:00PM) DETOUR TO MATTINGLEY-GARDINER FUNERAL HOME: Follow Fenwick Street to Courthouse Drive. Turn onto Courthouse Drive and then make the first left onto Camalier Drive. Take the next immediate right onto Tudor Hall Road. There is no sign there, but the road will take you behind the Courthouse. At the Stop Sign, cross Washington Street and continue straight along Lawrence Avenue. You will pass Kevin’s Corner Kafe on the right-hand side. Mary Katherine "Kathy" Goldey, 65, of La Plata, MD died on October 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family after a long illness. She was born on August 24, 1949 in Washington, D.C. to the late James T. Kersey, Sr., and Eleanor Swann Kersey. Kathy is also predeceased by her Granddaughter, Ashley Marie Goldey. Kathy is survived by her husband, Howard T. (Sonny) Goldey, Sr., who she married on October 28, 1967 at St. Peter’s Church, Waldorf, MD. She is survived by her children Howard T. (Sonny) Goldey, Jr., (Donna) and Joseph D. Goldey (Jenna). Grandchildren; Hunter T. Goldey, Holden T. Goldey, Jenna L. Goldey, Miranda K. Goldey, Joseph M. Plass and Bailey N. Plass. Her siblings Carol Flint and James T. Kersey, Jr., brother-in-laws Tom Flint, Glenn Sosbe and sister-in-laws, Cindy Kersey and Maddie Sosbe, niece Kim Hammett, nephews, Tom Flint, Jr., and James F. Kersey. Many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. And her childhood friends, Sharon Gardiner and Linda Lee Turner. Kathy worked with Dr. Rath and Dr. Mishra for 30 years as a medical assistant and then office manager until her health failed. She was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Mary’s Newport Church, Charlotte Hall, MD. She was an active member of the Social Concerns Committee for many years. Kathy enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and most of all her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed the holidays, gardening, shopping and outdoor activities. She always was willing to open her heart, home or wallet to anyone who needed her support. Kathy’s smile would always brighten your day. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM with prayers recited at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be her husband, Howard T. Goldey, Sr., sons, Howard T. Goldey, Jr., Joseph D. Goldey, Grandsons; Hunter T. Goldey, Holden T. Goldey and brother James T. Kersey, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Burnette, Tom Flint, Sr., Tom Flint, Jr., Glenn Sosbe, Jeff Hammett, James F. Kersey,and Jeffrey Hammett.
