Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2006, at 12:30 PM in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow church cemetery. Visitation: Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2006, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. Contributions may be made to St. John's Building Fund, P.O. Box 69, Hollywood, MD 20636 William Francis "Bill" Bassford, Jr. 81, of Hollywood, MD died February 6, 2006 in Clinton Nursing Home. Born July 31, 1924 in Hollywood, MD he was the son of the late William Francis and Anna Ruth Norris Bassford, Sr. He was the loving husband of Mary Ann Jarboe Bassford whom he married in St. John's Catholic Church on June 20, 1953. He is survived by his children William Bassford, Connie Beasley and Michael Bassford all of Hollywood, MD, Charlie Bassford of St. Inigoes; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was also preceded in death by his children Ronnie and Catherine Bassford; brothers Joe Bassford, Lemial "T." Bassford, James "Mouse" Bassford, John Bassford and Donald Bassford. Mr. Bassford was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident and was employed by the civil service as a sheet metal mechanic at Patuxent River for 42 years until his retirement in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army for 3 years from 1942 until 1945. During his military career he served in World War II and was stationed in Italy. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, oystering, spending time with his friends at the local tavern and watching sports. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Bassford, Charlie Bassford, Jr., Jim Beasley, Ryan Beasley, Michael Bassford, and Larry Bassford.
