A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 14 at 10:00 AM in St. George's Episcopal Church, Valley Lee, MD with Father John Ball officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, St. George's Island.
Visitation:
Public Viewing will be held in the funeral home on Monday, December 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM.
Franklin Donald "Donnie" Poe, Jr., 35, of Valley Lee, MD died December 9, 2004 at his parents home in Valley Lee, MD after a lengthy illness from a brain tumor. He was born March 7, 1969 in Leonardtown, MD to Franklin "Donnie" Poe, Sr. and Sarah "Betty" Poe. In addition to his parents he is survived by his sisters, Chandra Poe Goddard and Karen Poe, his brother-in-law, Bill Goddard, and two nephews, Mitch and Mason Goddard. He is also survived by his grandmother, Agnes C. Poe. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Franklin "Toadie" Poe. Mr. Poe was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County. He was a graduate of Leonardtown High School, Class of 1987. Donnie was employed by the Public Works Department at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD as an Engineering Technician for 16 years. He was a past Vice-President of Sanners Lake Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed archery, skeet shooting, deer, crow and goose hunting, attending gun shows, and he was also an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. The family will receive friends at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on December 13, 2004 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with prayers being held at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 14, 2004 in St. George's Episcopal Church in Valley Lee officiated by Reverend John Ball and co-officiating Reverend Albie Hazen. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Chapel Cemetery, St. George's Island. Pallbearers will be Tommy Deagle, Skip Edwards, Bill Goddard, Mason Goddard, Mitch Goddard, Jeff Janiszewski, Todd Janiszewski, Tom Janiszewski and Eddie Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles and Vicki Deagle. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
