Services:
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Morganza, MD. Interment will follow in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Helen, MD.
Visitation:
Public viewing/visitation will be held in the funeral home on Monday, June 28, 2004 from 5 - 8 PM with prayers being held at 7:00 PM.
Benjamin Carroll Wood, Sr., 81, of Mechanicsville, MD died June 25, 2004 in St. Mary's Nursing Center. Born July 13, 1922 in Mechanicsville, MD, he was the son of the late Joseph "Harry" Wood and Avie Bertha Posey Wood. He was the loving husband of Mildred Anne Wood, whom he married on January 6, 1990 in Chaptico, MD. Mr. Wood is also survived by his son, Benjamin C. Wood, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and his nephews, Joseph "Wink" Wood, Alfred Wood and Sidney Wood all of Mechanicsville, MD, his sister, Louise Wood, of Costa Mesa, CA and a brother, George Wood of Forestville, MD. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Posey Wood and Dorothy Buckler and a brother, Sidney Wood. Mr. Wood was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County who graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1940. He was employed for over 30 years in the Supply Department at Patuxent River, MD before his retirement in 1985. He loved to garden and spend Saturdays at the Farmer's Market in Charlotte Hall. The family received friends on Monday, June 28, 2004 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church where Father Keith Woods officiated. Interment followed in Queen of Peace Cemetery in Helen, MD. Pall bearers for Mr. Wood were his grandsons, Thomas C. Wood, Joseph H. Wood, Robert L. Wood, Jason M. Wood, Montgomery F. Wood, Preston M. Wood, David A. Wood and Joseph D. Wood. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, Brenda Manzie, Loretta Edwards and Jennifer Roberts. Contributions may be made to Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O.
