A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens.
Visitation:
Viewing & Visitation will be held on Friday, November 18, 2005 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.
James Manning "Cotton" Johnson, Sr., 88, of Hollywood, MD died November 16, 2005 in St. Mary's Nursing Center. Born June 12, 1917 in Morganza, MD he was the son of the late James Ernest and Mary Rosalie Cooper Johnson. He was the loving husband of Mary Estelle "Doll" Guy Johnson whom he married on July 11, 1943 in St. John's Catholic Church. He is survived by his children: Phyllis Mattingly, James M. Johnson, Jr., William K. Johnson and Thomas R. Johnson all of Hollywood, MD; brothers and sisters: Lillian M. Johnson, Elsie E. Stone and Charles B. Johnson all of Leonardtown, MD, Mary R. Hayden of Bushwood, MD and Margaret L. Wheeler of Clements, MD; grandchildren: Tammy Johnson, Jennifer Kern, Sandie Stone, Christi Johnson, Melissa Johnson, Brad Johnson and Tricia Johnson and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Mildred Stone Adams, Ernest H. Johnson, J. Melvin Johnson, William R. Johnson, Francis B. Johnson, Sr., Henrietta J. Bean and John F. Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident where he attended Great Mills High School. He worked as a mechanics at Dean's Sunoco. The family received friends on Friday, November 18, 2005 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in St. John's Catholic Church with Father Raymond Schmidt officiating. Interment followed in Charles Memorial Gardens.
