Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop William McLean officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Visitation: Viewing/Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. Allen Wayne Smith, Sr., 38, of California, MD formerly of Indian Head, MD died August 28, 2006 at Dameron, MD. Born October 15, 1967 in Washington, DC he was the son of Alice M. Herndon of Waldorf, MD and the late Walter C. Prentiss, Jr. He is survived by his children: A.J. and Amanda Smith both of Indian Head, MD and his siblings: Robert Noreross, Jeff Herndon of Pasadena, MD, Brian Taylor of DE, Michele and Walter Prentiss both of California, MD. Mr. Smith graduated from Thomas Stone High School Class of 1985. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. for 5 years from July 2, 1985 â?? July 7, 1989. He moved to St. Mary's County from Charles County in November of 2005. Allen was employed with Phillip's Press for 21 years as a bookbinder. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 from 10:00 â?? 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Bishop William McLean officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Pallbearers will be Walter Prentiss, Ronnie Goodwin, Homer Bostic, Richard Norment, Jeff Herndon, Bobby Norment and A.J. Smith. Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A.
