Visitation: Viewing - Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 5-8 PM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD John Augustus "Jack" Nial, Sr., 85, of California, MD died August 13, 2005 in Washington, D.C. Born October 2 9, 1919 in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph B. and Mary Curry Nial. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene C. Naruszewicz Nial, whom he married on June 1, 1947. He is also survived by his children, Jack Nial, Jr. of Park Hall, MD; James Nial of California; Dennis Nial of Gaithersburg, MD; Gary Nial of Lewiston, ID; Kevin Nial of California, MD; and Mary Nial Walsh of Waldorf, MD and 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Walter Nial of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and his sister, Frances Smith of Chevy Chase, MD. Mr. Nial was preceded in death by his siblings, Marion Nial, Marjorie Leonard, J. B. Nial, Jr., Helen Gray, Irene Oram and Loretta Nial. He graduated from Lansingburg High School, Class of 1938 and from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute in December, 1943 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. He was employed as an Aeronautical Engineer for the U.S. Government, Department of the Navy, for 33 years until his retirement in 1979. Mr. Nial was a member of the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics, the Society of Engineers and Scientists and the Flight Test Engineers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking camping and walking in his spare time and was a member of the Barber Shop Chorus. The family received friends on August 17, 2005 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Lexington Park, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on August 18, 2005 officiated by Father Roberto Cortes'. Interment followed in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Nial were Jack Nial, Jim Nial, Dennis Nial, Gary Nial, Eric Walsh and Kevin Stevens.
