William "Roy" Carter, Sr.
November 11, 1943 ~ March 14, 2015
William “Roy” Carter, Sr., of Valley Lee, MD passed away on March 14, 2015 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. Born on November 11, 1943 in St. Inigoes, MD, he was the son of the late William Henry Carter and Melba Tabitha Carter. Roy was the loving husband of Rosetta Mary Carter who preceded him in death in 2011. Roy is survived by his children; Marie Keller (Tim) of Callaway, MD, Cheryl Richardson (James)of Mechanicsville, MD, William Carter, Jr. of Germany, and Kenneth Carter, Sr. (Shawn) of Morganza, MD, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and brothers Bobby Carter, Doylus Carter, Ray Carter, Nelson Carter, Ronnie Carter, Donnie Carter, Harvey Carter, and David Carter, Sisters; Gene Stiffler, and Lucy Hammett. Roy was also preceded in death by his sisters Janice Freeman, Inez Williams, and Nancy Norris.
Roy loved spending time with family especially his grandkids. He was true outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and repairing small engines. He talked a lot about squirrel hunting and fishing with his younger brother Bobby. He fed the birds and squirrels outside his home, in the winter months, so that he could enjoy watching wildlife from the warmth of his favorite chair.
Pallbearers will be his brother; Bobby Carter, grandsons; James O’Neil, Kenneth Carter, Jr., Justin Carter, Jessie Ray Brotherton, and Kenneth Brotherton. Honorary pallbearers are
Grandsons; Wayne Carter, Kevin Carter, and Timothy Keller, II.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Father Greg Syler officiating. Interment will follow in St. Georges Episcopal Cemetery Valley Lee, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second District Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1 Valley Lee, MD 20692, and /or St. George Episcopal Church P.O. Box 30 Valley Lee, MD 20692
