Barbara Elaine Lacey, 69, of Chaptico, MD passed away on April 10, 2015 in Washington, DC. Born on February 12, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Agnes Loise (St. Clair) Penn and William Wilson Penn. Barbara was the loving wife of the late Leonard David (Satch) Lacey whom she married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD on October 31, 1964, and who preceded her in death on September 30, 2001 in Leonardtown, MD. Barbara is survived by her daughter Charlotte Marie Morgan (Donald) of Avenue, MD, 2 grandchildren: D.J. Morgan and Olivia Morgan. Siblings: Catherine Connor of Webster, TX, Doris Pilkerton and William Penn both of Mechanicsville, MD, Helen Rotzinger of Hollywood, MD, Mary Ann Hall of Chaptico, MD, and Agnes Farrell of Avenue, MD. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Jackie Long and Jimmy Penn. Barbara Graduated from LaPlata High School and was a Day care Provider. She loved her grandchildren, flowers, church, and her daycare kids.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Bushwood, MD with Father Anthony Lickteig officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Allen Hall, Stephen Stewart, Charles Lacey, Jeff Farrell, Donald Connor and Glen Buckler. Contributions may be made to the Nursing Program, James Forest Tech Ctr, 24005 Point Lookout Road Leonardtown, MD 20650.

There are no words that will help you heal during this sad time but please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers and we are so sorry for the loss of your mother, grand-mother, and sister. Sacred Heart Parish and all of your friends mourn with you. It is hard to understand why people we love are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing that she loved you all and was very proud of her family. Words can not say how sad I was to hear of the death of your Mother. She was a kind and giving person who I was honored to know. May God keep you in his loving arms in your time of grief. I know she is there with Satch.
Charlotte, I hope it helps to know that you and your family are so loved and send hugs to help you get through this diffiult time. We know your Mom is restng in the comfort of God’s loving embrace. It is for our ownselves that we grieve. We feel abandoned. You will always miss her, but in time, you will see and feel her presence in the little things that you encounter along the way. Charlotte, D.J. and Olivia, the death of someone that you love so dearly, is not easy. The memory of them will forever be in your hearts. I especially am so grateful for the picture of the passion of Christ that Satch and Barbara gave Ben and me for taking Barbara to D.C. a few years ago to have surgery. I still have it hanging in my kitchen where it has been ever since. I don’t think they really knew how much we have appreciated it. It has gotten us through a lot of sorrow. God bless.

I’m truly sorry to have heard about the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful person, always pleasant and cheerful and loved to talk about her lovely grandchildren. She was a great part of our church and I will truly miss our conversations when calling for church functions. Please accept our condolences to your family and we are so sorry to hear. We met Barbara at Sacred Heart and came to love her. She was so warm hearted and her love was so obvious with everyone she dealt with. It was a blessing to know her and her passion with the church inspired all of us.
