Robert L. Stone, 77, of Park Hall, MD passed away on December 28, 2015, in Leonardtown, MD. Born on September 7, 1938 in Leonardtown, MD he was the son of the late Dorothy Hammett Stone, and Ernest L. Stone, Sr. Robert was the loving husband of the late Catherine Ford Stone, whom he married on October 10, 1956 in Leonardtown, MD, and who preceded him in death on February 7, 2015. Robert is survived by his children: Robert Stone (Moe) of Park Hall, MD, Kelly (Billy) of Sonntag of Avenue, MD, Sandra Schlosser of California, MD, Roberta (Jon) Sola of St. Mary’s City, MD, 5 grandchildren; Kimberly Murray, Bobby Lee Raley, Adam Schlosser, Bella Sola, and Evan Sola, Great Grandchildren: Kori, Kyndle, Gunner, and Kinsley Raley, and Rowan Murray. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Ernest L. Stone, Jr., Hammett Stone and Martha Easterling He graduated from St. Michael’s Catholic School in 1955 and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver until he retired in January, 2012, after 60 years. He enjoyed plowing a field or two and watching his crops grow. He had a passion for collecting antique trucks and tractors, many of which he and Moe completely restored. Mr. Stone was also a deputy sheriff in the early 1970’s. As a young man, he was employed in the family business known as E.L. Stone and Son of Park Hall, MD. This is where he developed a love of big rigs and the open road.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church Great Mills, MD with Father Scott Woods officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Billy Sonntag, Jon Sola, Bobby Lee Raley, Adam Schlosser, Roger Ridgell, John Bodnar, Steve Schlosser and Eric Murray.
