Charles Louis Garner, 67, of Hollywood, MD, passed away on February 1, 2016 at his residence.
Born on June 29, 1948 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Marian Cecelia Garner, and Thomas Irvin Garner. Charles was the loving husband of Millie Garner, whom he married on June 6, 1975 in La Plata, MD. Charles is survived by his daughter; Lauren Crossman of Leonardtown, MD, granddaughters; Mackenzie, Kendall and Presley. Siblings; Tommy Garner (Carol), Lynn Lancaster (David), Jimmy Garner (Cathy), Gary Garner (Kelli), Donna Hurley (John), Debbie Norris (Bernie), Beverly Bowles (Allan) all of Hollywood, MD, and Kent Garner (John) of San Diego, CA. He graduated from Great Mills High School in 1967 and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD. Charles worked for the Federal Government as an Electrician, Assistant Supervisor for 30 years retiring on June 24, 2003. He enjoyed crabbing, fishing, and yard work.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 7, 2016 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM with prayers at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Troy Garner, Johnny Wallace, Paul Lawrence, and Carol Brady. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tommy Garner, Lynn Lancaster, Jimmy Garner, Gary Garner, Donna Hurley, Debbie Norris, Beverly Bowles, and Kent Garner.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Charles honor can be made to St. John’s Catholic Church 43950 St. Johns Road Hollywood, MD 20636 and or Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary P.O. Box 7 Hollywood, MD 20636.

Charles Garner, and the entire Garner family are, have been and will always be remembered as a part of the Sandy Bottom/Hollywood group of families. We all went to school together, attended St. John’s Church together, volunteered together for the betterment of the community and simply put, made our home town the sweet, kind and welcoming place it has always been. Charles’ name will be mentioned still in the restaurants and watering holes there for years to come. He was well liked, well loved and will be missed by us all. Millie, I am so sorry for your loss. Millie, Lauren and family I am deeply saddened at the lost of such a wonderful man. Charles was a big part of our family as you know, I am not sure what my Dad is going to do without him. Charly and I had worked together on the hill for longer then I want to say, but he and I enjoyed each others company and he helped me in so many ways thru out our time together. Once I had made supervisor his support was extremely valuable to me. I know all who new him would agree he was a very good and supportive friend.

Millie, Lauren, and the entire Garner family, such a loss is hard to endure but my prayers are that all the great memories of Charles will help you through this very tough time. I will always remember Charles’ wonderful smile and just what a nice guy he always was. He always met you with a wide smile and a nice conversation. I never remember seeing him in a bad mood. He was a big part of the Sandy Bottom bunch and will be sorely missed by so very many. Although I was away from MD for many years, the deaths of Charles Thompson, and Charles Garner, so close together, have brought me immediately back to my childhood there. It was a great time, a great place to be brought up, and many great, lifelong friends. Rest in Peace, Charles.

He and brother Joe were such close friends while Joe was here on earth and I have many fond memories of him.
